PRESENTATION.
The Spanish as a Foreign Language EN VIVO Program (SFL) at Javeriana University in Cali Colombia is the perfect opportunity to live the richness of the Latin American Culture with the taste of the Colombian accent. Students can enjoy active and conversational live- learning sessions with highly committed teachers and, at the same time, meet people from different parts of the world and their culture. Participants live the program from the comforts of home and at the ideal moment of their local time.
The objectives of the EN VIVO Program are framed on the design and implementation of educational strategies that seek to enrich the learning processes of students who want to exercise flexibility and autonomy in performing tasks while gaining the new language domain.
The program offers a conversational approach, through oral and written interactions. The EN VIVO model uses instructional materials, internet, and mass media as a key strategy to facilitate students´ learning. Still, the key secret of the program relies on teachers who continuously interact with students.
The program structure and design consists of four levels delivered through four different courses in accordance with the European Framework:
A1 BEGINNER LEVEL COURSES: SPANISH A1.1 and A1.2
A2 ELEMENTARY LEVEL COURSES: SPANISH A2.1 and A2.2
B1 INTERMEDIATE LEVEL COURSES: SPANISH B1.1 and B1.2
B2 UPPER LEVEL COURSES: SPANISH B2.1 and B2.2
These levels go hand-in-hand with the linguistic, social, academic and cultural requirements of those who want to reinforce their communicative competencies, familiarize with different cultures and strengthen their communicative skills of Spanish as a foreign Language.
The EN VIVO program follows the communicative approach that develops the four communicative skills of the Spanish language . Students use the language they have acquired to carry out a host of communicative activities in order to develop their language skills in a freer and more confident way. Every course promotes the institutional language-learning model that seeks to place the student at the center of the learning process.
Some examples of activities include: games; online discussion forums/ boards blogging, group and pair-work activities; interviews; student-to-student conversations about their background, beliefs, habits and culture; writing activities; music-based activities; and movie-based activities.
Weekly online meetings offer an incredibly convenient option for reaching fluency on the language. Having a skilled teacher who can help students gain confidence and perfect their pronunciation and grammar and communication skills is a great way to improve the learner's skills effectively.
